Small Business Loans For Bad Credit

Business owners who have bad credit take heart. Small business loans for bad credit risks are available. But getting them will require work on your part, and those loans will more than likely come at a higher price than they would for people with stellar credit. Still, success can be achieved if you're willing to put in the effort.

Accept the fact that you need to make some changes in how you handle your debt obligations. You have to show a good faith effort at repairing your credit. Put yourself in a lender's shoes: would you be willing to lend money to someone who doesn't pay it back in a timely manner... if at all? Bad payment history can't be immediately expunged but it can be whittled away. Get started on cleaning up your credit.

To accomplish that, get a copy of your credit report from each of the credit bureaus and make sure that each one is correct. There are often discrepancies that can be corrected. Those corrections will take time and effort that may include phone calls and/or letters to past as well as current creditors. But once those corrections are made, you may find that your credit score has improved considerably. If that happens you may find that acquiring personal or corporate credit is not such a difficult task. After all, finding small business loans for good credit is much easier than finding small business loans for bad credit.

However, if your credit score doesn't show a significant improvement through such efforts, you will need to start looking at other options. This will include establishing a better current credit history. Doing so could be as simple as getting a cell phone in your company's name. A credit card would be even better, even if it is a low-limit, high-interest rate card. Once you've acquired those, make it your top priority to make the payments on them on time every month. You have to show that you are trustworthy when it comes to your company's financial obligations. Continue keeping a close eye on your credit report. Make sure that all of your credit obligations are reported to the credit bureaus.

If you find that you are still having trouble getting financing for your business after you've started to clean up your credit report, you may need to look at your own assets as a way of raising funds. A retirement account such as a 401k is a great source of small business loans for bad credit. If you have such a retirement account from a previous employer, you can borrow from it. First you will have to roll the 401k into an individual retirement account. Your personal banker can assist you with this task. Once that is done, you can borrow from as much as half its value, with a maximum loan amount of $50,000.

It doesn't matter what you want to do with the money that you borrow from your own 401k and there are no qualification steps to go through to get the loan. An additional benefit is that all the interest that you pay on the loan will go back into your retirement account. You will actually earn money on your loan and you will rebuild your credit by making those payments on time. Small business loans for bad credit will become a thing of the past and you will find yourself gaining loans for good credit in the future.
